Tying your braid to leader for softbait fishing

March 17, 2016 by FOM 1 Comment

Hey guys,

One of the things that took me a while to get right was tying my braid to leader for softbait fishing. I now exclusively use softbait and find skink bait, well… stinky and messy! It took me a long time to find a knot that I could follow along with someone doing it on a youtube video in front of me, never mind learning to do it on the kayak out on the water. Now this knot seems so simple to me.

I have not caught a kingfish with it, but I have caught a 60cm snapper and some pretty large kahawai. So use at your own risk, but I feel they’re pretty safe.

So here’s a video showing how I do it:

And here’s me being me on camera:

[…] Your leader is just a piece of line between your braid and jighead. Often it’ll be a lot heavier weight than your braid to withstand some sharp teeth. Truth be told, I know even less about leaders than I do about braid. I just keep a roll of this in stock, 20lb for softbaiting. You can see a previous post of mine about how to tie the braid to the leader. […]
