I bought a Drift Innovation Stealth 2 on special for US$69 from Amazon. Camera is weather resistant, which probably means it’s fine for cycling in the rain, so needed a waterproof case for kayaking.
Camera and video quality is great and it got some really good online reviews. Unfortunately the IR remote was never any good and has now stopped working completely. Tried registering on their website for support and tried emailing them when I wasn’t able to, both without any luck. I can still use my phone as a remote, but then I’d have to turn on the wifi on the camera and that reduces battery time, so I’ll probably end up mounting it somewhere up front where I can reach the buttons by hand.
As I said, the video quality is great, but there is effectively no sound through the waterproof case.
I found the battery was only lasting 1 1/2 hours or so, but that turned out to be because I was charging it from my laptop. Read somewhere that you don’t get a full charge from a USB port on a PC/laptop and sure enough, charging it directly on a wall socket gives me closer to and sometimes more than the advertised 3 hours of recording time. 3 hours for a small camera like this is pretty good by the way.
As it turns out, I might not be much of a movie maker. The idea of recording some of those exciting moments and beautiful scenery on the kayak sounded great, but truthfully, fishing it a time for me to unwind and enjoy some alone time. I’ve had this thing for a good few months now, but only posted one video on Youtube so far. Guess you have to decide whether you really want an action camera or not.
