It’s amazing, we all love food (well, I do!) and feel sorry for ourselves on a fast because we can’t get the beloved substance (again, at least I do!), but once you’ve done your first successful fast you end up wondering when you can do the next one and how long you should wait between water fasts.
Well, I did a 7 day fast from the 30th of December until the 6th of January and yesterday, the 16th of Jan I started a second one. Please note, however, that I am not medically qualified at all and you should really not do what I do without your own research.
In my case though, I don’t think I should have stopped that first fast after 7 days and I think for where I’m at, the benefits outweigh the risks. I’m 6’2 and weighed in at 148kgs (326lbs) when I started that first fast. I do have some health issues, but I think I’m healthy enough to not be putting myself at risk.
I read about a woman on CureZone (great resource for fasting) who had done 2x 40 days fasts with only 4 days of eating between the two and she was planning to do another 40 day fast 4 days after that. The people on CureZone were trying to convince her not to do the 3rd one out of concern for her health. So, I absolutely think that you can do harm to yourself if you fast too often, but I also think going from a 6 day fast into another fast 10 days later is nowhere near doing 2 40 day fasts with onto 4 days in between. So everything is relative. From what I’ve read, my (non-medical) opinion is:
- IF you have a fair bit of reserves and are generally in good health, it is okay to do a 5 day or so fast every month for a few months, but not to do so long-term.
- Longer fasts needs a longer window for your body to replenish its reserves (electrolytes and vitamins etc)
- The theory is that your body will consume some of your muscles as energy for the first few days until it switches over into Ketosis… Your organs are muscles… More reserves to be replenished.
So that’s it for how long to wait between fasts. I feel very comfortable having started again 10 days after a 7 day fast, but next time I will wait at least 1 month if I finish this fast in 7 days or less and longer if I happen to continue this one for longer, which is what I’m hoping to do.
On the 25th of December I weighed 148.8kgs, earlier in December I was close to 150kgs and when I started my previous fast on the 30th of December I weighed 148kgs exactly. As for this fast starting on 16 Jan 2018:
Day 1: 142.9Kgs
Day 2: 140.9Kgs ??? Wow
